Exploratory Reading Groups (CMPM 15): Curious about what’s next in your field and what inspires you? In low-commitment reading groups, join like-minded peers to discuss the creative and societally impactful work of UCSC faculty from human-centered AI and sustainable computing to generative AI and health tech. You will attend weekly 1-hour long discussions, present 2 papers (one per reading group), and skim papers for the weeks you are not presenting. Vertically Integrated Labs (CMPM 118): Ready to dive in and commit over multiple quarters? Join "vertically integrated" research labs that allow groups of students to join as early as their first or second year and to grow into core contributors, leaders, and mentors over multiple quarters or years. These require 10 hours/week of time commitment and strong time management. They typically start with structured skill-building experiences in the first quarter(s).
